Frequently asked questions
What airflow should I choose for a VMV exhaust unit?
The airflow depends on the volume of the premises, the number of extract points and the use of the building. Our range goes from 250 m³/h for a small installation up to 6000 m³/h for a workshop or multi-occupancy building. Also allow for pressure losses caused by the length of the ductwork and the elbows: they reduce the actual airflow compared with the rated figure.
What duct diameter should I pair with a VMV exhaust unit?
The diameter follows the target airflow: Ø125 or Ø160 mm for low airflows, Ø200 or Ø250 mm for intermediate airflows, Ø315 or Ø355 mm for the highest airflows in the range. A diameter that is too small increases air velocity, noise and pressure loss.
Compact, slimline or acoustic unit: which should I choose?
The slimline unit makes installation easier when the suspended ceiling height is limited. The acoustic unit suits cases where sound level is a sensitive factor, for example near occupied offices: it gains a few dB and reduces vibration compared with the standard version, which sits between 40 and 50 dB depending on diameter. The compact unit from the Poly range suits installations where ease of installation and light weight are the priority.
Can a VMV unit replace a commercial kitchen hood?
Some units in the range, such as the 720 m³/h model sold as a kitchen hood VMV kit, can be used for hood extraction if the airflow, temperature resistance and ductwork are suitable. Sizing should always take the cooking equipment into account, not just the unit's airflow.
What is the difference between a standard VMV unit and a C4 ERP 400° unit?
The units presented in this category are standard ventilation units, without C4 fire rating or F400/120 classification. For an installation requiring fire resistance or a smoke extraction function, you should turn to the dedicated range of C4 smoke extraction units for public-access buildings, whose characteristics meet these specific requirements.
