How to choose an extraction fan for a ventilation system

The choice of an extraction fan mainly depends on the required airflow and the characteristics of the ventilation system. The volume of the premises, number of extract air valves, duct length and number of bends should all be taken into account.

Roof or external wall installation

An extraction fan can be installed outside the building, on the roof or on an external wall, depending on the building and ductwork configuration. This type of installation also allows the motor to be located outside the premises.

What airflow should you choose?

The airflow should be adapted to the requirements of the building. Duct diameter is also important: undersized ductwork or a system with high pressure losses can reduce the airflow actually achieved.

External extraction fan or extraction fan box?

An external extraction fan is installed outside the building, on the roof or on an external wall. When the motor needs to be installed in a loft, suspended ceiling or technical room, an extraction fan box may be more suitable.
