Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a static hood and a hood with a built-in motor?
A motorless range hood (static canopy) captures smoke and steam but does not extract it itself: extraction is handled by a remote motor, fitted inside an extraction fan box or a roof extract fan. A hood with a built-in motor has its own fan fitted directly. The static hood gives you more freedom to choose and position the motor according to your ductwork.
Do I need an extraction fan box or a roof extract fan with a motorless hood?
Both options are possible. An extraction fan box lets you install the motor away from the hood, in a loft space or plant room. A roof extract fan is suitable when extraction needs to happen directly at roof level. The choice depends on the building layout and the space available for the motor.
What hood length should I choose for my cooking line?
Our range of motorless hoods runs from 1 to 6 metres depending on the model. The length must cover all the cooking equipment installed underneath, with no area left uncaptured. Measure your cooking line precisely before choosing the right model and length.
Do I need a make-up air hood in my kitchen?
A make-up air hood combines extraction of stale air with an incoming supply of fresh air that offsets part of the extracted volume. It is particularly useful in large commercial kitchens with high extraction rates. It requires a suitable supply air system in addition to standard extraction.
How do I install a motorless hood supplied as a kit?
Hoods are generally fixed to the wall and ceiling using our fixing kits, which include threaded rods and fixings, or an assembly kit for models delivered in several sections. Our video tutorials (https://www.youtube.com/@ventilsogood-cee) walk through each step of assembly so you can fit your hood yourself.
At what height should I fit my hood?
The key point to remember: the closer the hood is to the cooking surface, the better it extracts. As a general rule, our commercial hoods are fitted around 1.80 metres for angled canopy models and around 2 metres from the floor for rectangular or box-type models. There are exceptions: a food truck fitted with our compact model is usually mounted between 1.35 and 1.50 m from the floor, and a large rondo grill or a non-lowered kebab machine table often requires raising the hood by 10 to 20 cm.
