Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a baffle filter and a G4 pre-filter?
The baffle filter traps cooking grease directly under the hood and lets it run down into the collection tray. The G4 pre-filter fits into a carbon filter box to protect the activated carbon media from larger particles before they saturate it. These are not equivalents: a carbon filter box with a simple G4 filter does not replace proper baffle filtration in a kitchen with a heavy grease load.
Which filter should I choose for a fryer or a grill?
For stations that generate the most grease (fryer, grill, plancha), the high-performance filter L500xH400xP25mm is designed to cope with a heavier grease load than a standard baffle filter. It needs regular maintenance to keep up its extraction performance over time.
Does a range hood filter also remove odours?
No, a baffle filter only deals with grease and particles, not odours. However, if it's well maintained (weekly cleaning) it significantly limits odours. For a hood without ducting to the outside (recirculating use only) or alongside a standard extraction system, you need a carbon filter box fitted with a G4 pre-filter upstream of the filtering media.
What is a blanking plate used for?
The blanking plate closes off a filter position that's no longer in use, for example a cooking station that's been switched off, to keep the hood's plenum airtight without letting unfiltered air through. It's fitted to the exact dimensions of the old filter, in stainless steel (500x400mm) or domed galvanised steel (500x500mm) depending on the model.
How often should a range hood filter be cleaned or replaced?
A clogged filter reduces actual extraction performance and increases the risk of grease build-up in the ductwork. The frequency depends heavily on how intensively the kitchen is used and on the type of filter fitted: regular checks remain the best way to spot when cleaning or replacement is needed.
