The term “exhaust-free range hood” generally refers to a range hood that filters the air before recirculating it into the room. This solution, which is common in residential settings, should not be confused with our professional activated-carbon systems.

Our systems combine a commercial range hood with a remote activated carbon filter unit integrated into the ventilation system. The extracted air is filtered to reduce grease and, most importantly, cooking odors before it is released back into the room.

How does a professional activated carbon range hood work?

The activated carbon filter unit is installed in the ventilation system between the range hood and the exhaust outlet. Air laden with smoke, grease, and odors passes through a pre-filter and then through the activated carbon, which significantly reduces odors before the air is exhausted.

When should an odor-control activated carbon unit be used?

The odor-control activated carbon unit is particularly useful when the exhaust outlet is located near residential areas, businesses, or neighbors sensitive to cooking odors. It can be installed at various points in the system and remains easily accessible for maintenance and replacement of the activated carbon.

However, the choice of system depends on the type of cooking. For installations that produce a lot of grease or smoke—particularly those using deep fryers, planchas, or woks—an assessment of the extraction and filtration systems is recommended before selecting the equipment.

In public buildings, a cooking installation exceeding 20 kW may be subject to specific ventilation and smoke extraction requirements depending on its configuration. A charcoal-filter hood does not replace an F400/120 smoke extraction system when the latter is required.

Our packages include a professional stainless steel range hood, a compatible motor, a speed controller, and an activated carbon filter unit. Depending on the model, the motor can be installed inside the range hood or mounted separately in the filter unit.
