What is a C4 400 °C / 30 min fan box?

A C4 extraction fan box is a motorised unit intended for ventilation systems requiring operation at 400 °C for 30 minutes. This characteristic applies in particular to certain ventilation systems in public and collective buildings.

The fan box can therefore provide ventilation during normal operation while meeting the high-temperature resistance requirements specified for the installation. Equipment should always be selected according to the applicable regulations and the configuration of the building concerned.

What airflow should you choose for a C4 fan box?

The required airflow should be determined according to the volume to be ventilated, the number of extract air valves, duct diameter and pressure losses within the system. Duct length, bends and changes in diameter directly affect the actual performance of the fan box.

C4 fan boxes for everyday ventilation

A C4 motorised fan box can provide air extraction during the everyday operation of a ventilation system. It is connected to the various extract air valves through a duct network and discharges the extracted air outside.

As with any ventilation system, regular maintenance of the air valves, accessible ductwork and fan box helps keep the system in good working condition.

C4 400 °C / 30 min or F400/120: what is the difference?

A C4 400 °C / 30 minute fan box should not be confused with a fan or fan box rated F400/120, which is designed to operate at 400 °C for 120 minutes. These two classifications therefore correspond to different operating durations at high temperature.

For a commercial kitchen or smoke extraction system subject to specific requirements, the equipment must be selected according to the applicable regulations and the characteristics of the installation.

How to choose a C4 fan box

To select the appropriate model, consider the required airflow, duct diameter and length, number of bends, pressure losses, electrical supply and intended location of the fan box.

Correct duct sizing is just as important as the stated fan airflow: undersized ductwork or a system with high pressure losses can significantly reduce the airflow actually achieved.
