When I receive or pick up my order (package or pallet), what should I do?
Essential Checks
When you receive or pick up your order, it is essential to check the condition and quantity in the presence of the carrier or retailer.
Key points:
-
Open all packages/pallets before signing the delivery receipt, even if the packaging appears intact.
-
Never sign under pressure.
-
If the carrier refuses to let you check the contents, note the reason on the delivery receipt:
“The delivery person did not wish to be present while the package was being unpacked for inspection.”
This step is your right and the only way to file a claim in case of damage.
What should you do in case of damage?
To ensure your claims are valid and allow for a redelivery:
-
Refuse the package and write: “REFUSED—DAMAGED.”
-
Describe the damage precisely on the delivery slip, for example:
-
“Centrifugal Fan dented/HS”
-
“Commercial Rang Hood with dents on stainless steel panels”
-
Never write: “damaged package/pallet”
These generic descriptions do not allow for an exchange or a dispute.
Invalid Reservations
The following notes are not accepted and render any claim impossible:
-
“Subject to unpacking”
-
“Damaged package”
