Electronic frequency controller 400 V three-phase for commercial ventilation

Our 400 V three-phase variable frequency drives (VFDs ) allow you to adjust the speed and airflow of three-phase ventilation motors. They are suitable for exhaust hoods, roof-mounted units, and other commercial ventilation systems compatible with variable frequency control.

How to Choose a Three-Phase Variable Frequency Drive?

The choice of a 400 V variable frequency drive depends primarily on the motor’s power, voltage, and current. The drive must be properly sized based on the electrical specifications listed on the motor’s nameplate.

Before ordering, be sure to check the supply voltage, power in kW, and current of the motor. The former designation “380 V three-phase” generally corresponds to the 400 V power grid today.

Why use a variable frequency drive?

A variable frequency drive allows you to adjust the motor speed—and thus the exhaust airflow—to meet the system’s needs. It can reduce the airflow when ventilation requirements are low and allow the motor to operate at full power when maximum exhaust is needed.

It also enables a soft start for the motor and, depending on the model, offers various control and protection options.

Electronic frequency controller and smoke extraction F400/120

For systems subject to smoke exhaust requirements, we also offer solutions tailored to systems equipped with F400/120 motors and turrets, designed to operate at 400 °C for 120 minutes.

Depending on the model, the drive may feature a forced-run mode that allows the motor to be controlled during smoke exhaust operations. Some versions also offer additional functions such as gas valve control or lighting control.

The choice of drive and its control mode must be tailored to the system’s configuration and requirements.

Which IP rating should you choose?

The IP rating must be selected based on the drive’s location and its exposure to dust, humidity, or water splashes.

  • IP20 / IP22: Generally intended for protected installations, such as inside a cabinet or a suitable electrical room.
  • IP55: Offers superior protection for more exposed installations and allows for installation in many professional environments.

Always check the IP rating of the selected model and the conditions specified for its installation.

Single-phase or three-phase variable speed drive?

This category is intended for 400 V three-phase motors. For a range hood or ventilation motor operating on 230 V single-phase power, see our line of 230 V single-phase variable speed drives.

Need help choosing your three-phase speed controller?

If you’re unsure, provide us with the motor’s part number or send us a photo of its nameplate. The voltage, power in kW, and current will help us guide you toward the variable speed drive best suited for your installation.
